It is listed in CITES Appendix Ⅱ, meaning commercial international trade of wild specimens is strictly prohibited; only artificially propagated plants with official CITES documents may be legally traded.

Requires full sun, excellent drainage, coarse mineral soil, and extremely dry conditions. Water sparingly in the growing season; keep very dry in cool periods. It is sensitive to overwatering, humidity, and frost. Best grown in a deep container to accommodate its long taproot.
