About maintenance
1. Growth environment: Pink
Velvet likes a warm, dry, sunny and ventilated environment. The best growth temperature is between 15 and 25 degrees. Avoid strong sunlight in summer. It will dormant for a short time at high temperature. It has average cold resistance and stops growing when the temperature is below 5 degrees. It is drought-tolerant and afraid of waterlogging. It likes to grow in loose and breathable humus soil.
2. Light requirements:
Velvet has high light requirements. Under sufficient light, its plants are compact, and the leaves are tight and bright; insufficient sunlight will accelerate the upward growth of the stems, resulting in large leaf gaps and elongated leaves.
During the spring and autumn growing seasons, velvet can be grown outdoors. Maintaining sufficient light is conducive to thick and full leaves. In summer, when the temperature is high, provide shading in time. When the temperature is above 33 degrees, pull up the shade net to prevent direct sunlight from burning the leaves. When the temperature is above 35 degrees, it will enter a short dormant period. Keep good ventilation. When the potting soil is dry, spray a little water on the pot surface at night to prevent the roots from drying out. When the temperature is below 5 degrees, it will enter a dormant state. Move it to a sunny place indoors for maintenance. Avoid frostbite when the temperature is below 0 degrees.
3. Water and fertilizer
Velvet's leaves are thick and contain a lot of water. It is more drought-resistant, does not require much water and fertilizer, and likes to grow in a dry and barren environment. If the environment is too humid and not ventilated, velvet is susceptible to black rot.
The succulent velvet grows faster in spring and autumn. In addition to sufficient light and good ventilation, it can be maintained with sufficient water and fertilizer. Watering keeps the soil moist, fertilize once every 20 days, or apply slow-release three-element fertilizer once in spring and autumn, with high phosphorus and potassium and low nitrogen fertilizer. Avoid excessive nitrogen fertilizer to cause leggy growth.
Velvet is afraid of high temperature and humidity. It is easy to black rot and die due to poor ventilation. It is hot and humid in summer. When the temperature reaches more than 30 degrees, reduce the amount of watering. When it is higher than 35 degrees, strengthen ventilation. The temperature drops quickly in late autumn and watering begins to be restrained, especially in winter. When the temperature is above 10 degrees, watering can be normal. When it is lower than 10 degrees, control watering. When it is lower than 5 degrees, gradually stop watering. Keep the pot soil dry and can withstand low temperatures of 0 degrees.
4. The best state of outdoor cultivation
is that the succulent velvet is not easy to be in good condition. If you have the conditions, try to grow it outdoors when the temperature is suitable. The velvet grown indoors cannot reach the jelly color, and can only have a slightly red leaf edge. The velvet plant grown outdoors, with sufficient light and a large temperature difference between day and night, has extremely rich leaf colors. Not only are the leaf tips red, but the leaf core can also turn into a sweet heart color. Flower lovers can call it sweet heart velvet. The pink velvet plant can also appear jelly red, which is particularly beautiful.
