About Echeveria Spotted Deer

Echeveria Spotted Deer is an eye-catching ornamental succulent belonging to the Echeveria genus in the Crassulaceae family. It has fleshy, plump, ovate-shaped leaves covered in epicuticular wax and tipped with an acuminate apex, forming a compact rosette. This succulent tends to grow dense branches and forms clusters. The pale pinkish foliage develops purple-reddish spots when Echeveria Spotted Deer is stressed in winter. The front side of the leaf is slightly flat, while the back side has a curved, semicircular shape. It is believed that Sedum clavatum is the parent plant of Echeveria Spotted Deer, as they have similar appearances and growth habits. Therefore, the care for Echeveria Spotted Deer can be similar to that for Sedum clavatum.

How to Care for Echeveria Spotted Deer

Sun/Location: Like most succulents, Echeveria Spotted Deer thrives in full sunlight to partial shade for at least 4-6 hours during the growing season. Place it in a bright and sunny location to help it develop its optimal shape and color and to prevent elongation or etiolation. Provide shade with a sheer curtain in the summer to avoid sunburn and use artificial grow lights in the winter to protect against severe cold.

Soil/Pot: Echeveria Spotted Deer thrives in porous and well-ventilated potting soil with 70% grain materials, such as perlite or pumice, which allow moisture to evaporate smoothly and prevent root rot. Repot in the warm spring to enhance soil porosity and encourage growth. Use tweezers to remove dead leaves from the bottom, and gently wipe the foliage with a clean paintbrush to keep Echeveria Spotted Deer looking its best.

Watering: Overwatering can kill your plant or cause mold and rot. Water thoroughly when the bottom leaves become soft and wrinkled or when the top layer of the potting soil is completely dry, using the soak-and-dry method. Immersive watering is also recommended if the plant is in a well-ventilated and breathable location. Be sure to provide shelter during rainy seasons.

Fertilizer: Echeveria Spotted Deer quickly generates side buds, making it beneficial to use a slow-release fertilizer. Apply slow-release fertilizer once in the spring and once in the autumn to promote growth. After fertilizing, place Echeveria Spotted Deer on a windowsill or in a bright, shady area to help it stay compact, as this plant enjoys a boost of nutrients.
